Probably the best viewpoint in Koh Samui<\/strong>, the Overlap Stone is still an underrated tourist attraction. The truth is that not many people get here. It might be because it’s hard to find or just because it’s not on the usual touristy route but one thing is certain: it’s definitely worth visiting.<\/p>\n\n

1. About the Overlap Stone<\/h2>\n

This is an absolute natural wonder. A huge 8 – meter tall, round stone sits in a perfect balance on another bigger stone overlooking the Lamai Beach and the Koh Samui jungle.<\/p>\n

The place is very peaceful and quiet. The birds will be singing all around you, the wind will blow through your hair and the butterflies will dance just for you. I think it’s a really romantic place, one of the few places in Koh Samui where you can still enjoy the untouched nature.<\/p>\n

Right near the rock there is a house where locals live. You will actually have to go through their front yard to get to the stone but don’t worry, they won’t mind. You can leave a small tip in their tip box as a sign of gratitude<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From their front yard there is a sturdy wooden bridge which leads towards the rock. You can actually go and sit on the edge of the stone and admire the views. The Overlap Stone is definitely one of the best photography spots on the island<\/a>\u00a0and the best Koh Samui viewpoint.<\/p>\n

Tip: If you want to spend more time at the Overlap Stone Koh Samui, keep in mind that there are no supermarkets nearby. Bring a lot of water with you and some snacks too – you might need them. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen!<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we visited, there was nobody there. We had the entire place to ourselves for about one hour. We took many photos and stood on the edge of the rock enjoying the view.<\/p>\n

I’m not sure why this place is not yet popular but I’m assuming it’s because of its location. Finding the Overlap Stone is an adventure itself but don’t worry, I’ll tell you exactly how to get to it.<\/p>\n

Tip: After visiting the Overlap Stone, you can visit other amazing nearby tourist attractions such as the incredible Silver Beach<\/a>, the secret Na Muang Waterall 2<\/a>\u00a0or the Mummified Monk at Wat Khunaram Temple<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. How to get to the Overlap Stone step by step<\/h2>\n

Google Maps works but only up to one point – it won’t take you directly to the Overlap Stone.<\/p>\n

Even better, there are just a few signs which indicate how to get to the rock. This is why I will include photos with the milestones you will have to reach in order to get to the Overlap Stone. It’s not that hard once you recognize the places in the photos below.<\/p>\n

Let’s start.<\/p>\n

Follow Google Maps from the main road until you will see some white signs with red painting saying that you should park your motorbike there. Park your motorbike and start walking towards the top of the hill.<\/p>\n

Tip: right after the motorbike parking, there is another awesome viewpoint on the right side. You will see some rocky terrain with big stones and another sign. Just follow the path and enjoy another amazing view!<\/strong><\/p>\n

After walking on the steep hill for about 5 minutes you will get to a bifurcation. To the left you will see an unpaved road going through the forest. Follow that road for about 2 minutes and then you should see a few abandoned cars.<\/p>\n

After passing by the abandoned cars, follow the path and in a couple of minutes you will see a house and the Overlap Stone.<\/p>\n

3. Transport to Overlap Stone<\/h2>\n

There are a few transport options to get to the Overlap Stone: you can walk from Lamai Beach (not recommended, I’ll tell you why below) or rent a motorbike.<\/p>\n

Walk from Lamai Beach<\/h3>\n

From the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks<\/a> there are only 2,2 km to the Overlap Stone. However, keep in mind the temperatures in Koh Samui can be extreme and once you will get off the main road you will have to climb quite a lot on a steep road in order to get to the Overlap Stone.<\/p>\n

Is it worth it? Yes, it is but if you know how to drive a motorbike, I would definitely recommend renting one.<\/p>\n

Tip: if you choose to walk, bring at least 2 liters of water with you. Trust me, you’ll need it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rent a motorbike<\/h3>\n

Renting a motorbike is cheap and convenient in Koh Samui ($7-$8\/ day). Even though you will still have to walk a bit after parking your motorbike, I think this is the best alternative.<\/p>\n

Tip: as I’ve already mentioned, the road is quite steep. When renting your motorbike make sure that the brakes work properly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Where to stay in Koh Samui<\/h2>\n
