To give you an idea, the Philippines <\/a><\/strong>is the number one exporter of coconut oil in the world. In 2019, it exported 916k tonnes of coconut oil, which accounts for 49% of the total exports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m sure that Siargao contributes a lot to this record since the entire island is covered in a thick jungle of coconut trees. It was the first thing that I noticed once I landed here and, as I explored more and more of Siargao, I was amazed by how many coconut trees and palm trees are on this island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun fact<\/strong> – A coconut tree is a type of palm tree. However, not all palm trees are coconut trees. A coconut tree can grow up to 75 coconuts per year if it’s well taken care of. I can only assume that Siargao produces enough coconuts to feed an entire country!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to enjoy an incredible view towards the sea of palm trees in Siargao, I recommend stopping at the famous Palm Tree Lookout. This small viewpoint, located on the side of the road is just a short drive away from General Luna and must-see for any traveler visiting Siargao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this guide, I’ll share with you everything you need to know about the Coconut Tree Viewpoint in Siargao. Let’s start with its location and how to get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1. Palm Tree Viewpoint Siargao Location<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is probably the best viewpoint in Siargao and the good news is that it’s located just a short drive away from General Luna (25 minutes). The viewpoint is located just before the famous Bent Palm Tree Swing<\/a><\/strong> near Maasin Bridge and the Palm Tree Road<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About one kilometre before this swing you’ll pass by a small parking lot on the right side of the road. There you’ll see lots of tourists taking photos and locals trying to sell souvenirs such as bamboo straws and handicrafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can park your motorbike\/ tricycle here and enjoy the views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. How to get to the Palm Tree Lookout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the exact location of the viewpoint, click here<\/a><\/strong>. You can find it on Google Maps as “Coconut Trees View Deck<\/a><\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I’ve said in all my Siargao travel guides<\/a><\/strong>, I recommend renting a motorbike to explore this island. It’s affordable and it gives you the freedom to spend as much time you want in each place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Almost all hotels, guest houses and hostels offer motorbike rental services. Just go and ask at the reception. Usually, it costs around 500 PHP per day but if you’re renting the motorbike for more than 3 days, you can always negotiate the price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way to this viewpoint, you’ll pass by local villages and of course, lots of palm trees. The road is in good condition and quite smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another option to visit the Coconut Tree Lookout in Siargao is by guided tour. There is a top-rated land tour<\/a><\/strong> that also includes other awesome tourist attractions such as the Bent Palm Tree<\/a><\/strong>, the Rock Pools and many others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want, you can also rent a tricycle with a driver for a day or half a day from General Luna. Make sure to agree on the price before starting the journey. Usually, it costs around 2000 PHP per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. My experience & what to expect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I spent about an hour at this famous Siargao viewpoint but I could have stayed to admire the sea of palm trees for days. It seemed like the only thing that stops the sea of palm trees from covering the entire world are the tall mountains in the distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is quite a popular stop for tourists driving on the Siargao Circumferential Road so don’t be surprised if you’ll see lots of people taking photos here. There are a couple of small shops right across the street where you’ll find snacks and refreshments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As soon as you’ll park your car, the locals will come to you trying to sell small souvenirs or bamboo straws. If you’re not interested, simply say no and they will understand. However, if you want to support the locals, it’s always a good idea to buy from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After we took a few hundreds photos (and no, I’m not exaggerating), we decided to venture between the palm trees with our motorbike. We continued our trip and in the first village, we turned right and we arrived at the base of the Siargao Palm Tree Lookout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was no one there, only us and a few buffaloes eating grass in peace. It was surreal to be surrounded by so much beauty and to be able to enjoy it without being bothered by other tens of tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have the time, I definitely recommend stepping off the beaten path for a few minutes. You can see the road on Google Maps – it’s located in front of the lookout. Unfortunately, I have no idea why but I’m unable to link the exact location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. The best time to visit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you want to have the place to yourself, I recommend arriving here during sunrise. The sky will be lit in the most beautiful colours and the background will be perfect for photos. The Coconut Tree Viewpoint in Siargao is definitely one of the best photography spots on the island<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the day, the place gets pretty crowded. The view is still gorgeous but you’ll have to admire it together with other tourists and locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Palm Tree Viewpoint is also famous during the sunset. Many people come here for sunset and I can’t blame them. The views are pretty amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Attractions to visit nearby<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While in the area, it would be a shame not to visit a few other breathtaking places. The closest one to this Siargao viewpoint is the Palm Tree Road<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just drive for about 2 minutes towards the Massin Bridge and you’ll get to a beautiful road, surrounded by tall palm trees. If you have a drone, make sure to lift it up in the air and take some awesome snaps. This place is actually quite popular, especially on Instagram and I wrote a complete guide about it. Another attraction near the Palm Tree Lookout is the Maasin River Swing<\/a><\/strong>, also known as the Bent Palm Tree Swing. I’ll leave a photo below to convince you to visit this place. You can read more about it here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you still have more time to spend in Siargao, I recommend going on an island hopping tour<\/a><\/strong>. You’ll explore the incredible Naked Island<\/a><\/strong>, Daku Island<\/a><\/strong> and Guyam Island<\/a><\/strong> and you’ll create some unforgettable memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, if you’re looking for off-the-beaten-path destinations, head to Pacifico Beach<\/a><\/strong> and enjoy the crystal-clear water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Where to stay in Siargao<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you want to stay close to restaurants, supermarkets and ATMs, I recommend finding accommodation in General Luna. I searched for the best hotels and guest houses for each budget and below are my recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
