Route 28 E is the most popular one and it crosses Alfama district while passing by some of the most important tourist attractions in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wherever you&#8217;re are in Lisbon, it&#8217;s impossible not to see the trams. They are super-photogenic so don&#8217;t hesitate to take a few photos as a souvenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>5. At every step, you&#8217;ll come across beautiful viewpoints, cool caf\u00e9s, and art shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I loved staring at the beautiful houses covered in azulejos (tiles) and watching how the local life unfolds in front of my eyes. If you want to see the best of Alfama, take the path less traveled and explore the small, narrow streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>6. Unfortunately, the original square was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake but it has since been rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nowadays, this huge space is surrounded by caf\u00e9s and in the middle, you can admire the statue of&nbsp;Jos\u00e9 I. Before heading to our next stop, Rua Augusta make sure to admire the Triumphal Arch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>7. If you&#8217;re looking for souvenirs to buy, this is the place to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I loved the mosaic pavement and even though I was only window shopping, I liked Rua Augusta. It&#8217;s one of the most lively and vibrant streets in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>8. Azulejos come in all colors and patterns and it&#8217;s fascinating to admire them on the houses&#8217; exterior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep your eyes peeled for these beautiful art pieces. If you&#8217;re looking for things to do in Lisbon on a budget, remember that admiring the city and it&#8217;s architecture is always free!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>10. The building survived many earthquakes and it was renovated several times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the Lisbon Cathedral is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city. If you have the time, don&#8217;t hesitate to visit the inside of the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>11. I can never have enough of this delicious Portuguese dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastel de nata was created in the 18th century at Jer\u00f3nimos Monastery, Lisbon. Eggs were used for starching clothes and when there were too many leftover eggs, they were used for pastries and desserts. That&#8217;s how pastel de nata was invented. Nowadays, you can find pasteis de nata all around Lisbon and in some&nbsp;caf\u00e9s, you can even see how they&#8217;re made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>12. This monastery is home to Vasco da Gama&#8217;s tomb and is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re on a budget but still want to see the best of Lisbon, I recommend visiting this beautiful monastery and while you&#8217;re here, make sure to visit the nearby Belem Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>13. While you&#8217;re here, make a short stop at Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>17. The centerpiece of this square is a 17-meters tall monument paying homage to Pedro IV. There are also two beautiful bronze fountains that light up during the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Middle Ages, Rossio Square was used for bullfights and executions but today it&#8217;s only another beautiful square, in the heart of Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>19.
